Artificial manmade cavities have been used successfully for years to provide increased breeding habitat for secondary cavity nesting birds.

Placing boxes over water is the preferred location, with the greatest chance of nesting success. Erect box on wooden pole, iron pipe, or other suitable structure out in the open water of a marsh, pond, stream, or swamp.
